The Eleventh Hour
Mon, 06/19/2017 -
11:00am to 12:00pm

Time and again, writers and scholars draw comparisons between literature and music. However, these comparisons tend to be abstract and vague. In this Eleventh Hour, Jeffery Renard Allen will discuss how five musical techniques—harmonic overtones, layering, voicing, distortion, and resonance—function in the construction of prose narrative. We will consider a range of works of fiction and nonfiction, including texts that don’t involve music or musicians.
