Five New Poems: For All Levels

Weekend June 20 to June 21 2020

A two-day immersion in the act of generating poetry, in the presence of a veteran, award-winning poet known for generously sharing her practice. We’ll look at the many ways poems can arrive, and how we can cultivate our receptivity to them. We will learn ways to broaden our range—in terms of voice, style, and subject—and ways to approach elusive or overwhelming material. Since every great poem is also a treatise on how to write a great poem, for each assignment there will be models. Our goal (first drafts of five new poems by the end of the weekend) will be reached, or exceeded, with surprising ease.

In this workshop, we will generate new writing through exercises and assignments; provide feedback on writing you produce in our weekend.
