The Final Draft: On Finishing and Knowing When You've Finished Your Novel

Instructor:
Weeklong June 16 to June 21 2019

This is an advanced novel writing workshop. It is designed for students who are fairly far along in or have finished the draft of a novel. Each student will submit up to fifteen pages—preferably the first fifteen, but not necessarily—to be considered in workshop. We will discuss, as a group, how to go from rough draft to final draft.

What needs to be done? What’s the best way to do it? How do you know when you’re finished? How do you prepare a manuscript to submit it to an agent or publisher? Instructor Eric Goodman has published five novels. Eighteen of his former students have published first books, including several who have taken this class.

This will be a completely honest, straightforward workshop designed to help you get to the next level as a writer.

In this workshop we will generate new writing through guided exercises and prompts; provide feedback on writing you bring from home.
